Class Highlights

One of the most interesting things I learned was that newspaper companies never say "Stop the presses." I figured before they would say it all the time to change something last minute. Another thing I found interesting was Hanifs power point presentation. His presentation gave a good idea on how censorship was in Iran. The last and most interesting thing I learned this quarter was from my own presentation and how internet piracy began and how it developed.

Books

If i have to list three books that influenced me it would definitely be harry potter, the bible and sadako and the thousand paper cranes. Harry Potter influenced me because I began reading it in elementary school. It was a adventure book that took me on a adventure all the way until high school. The bible was inflectional because my parents are Christian and I had to read it and thats about it. sadako and the thousand paper cranes was influential because this was the first non picture book that I have ever read.

Media Ethic/ Media Law

This case revolves around the show south park. The show recently censored anything that references Muhammad in any way due to the threats from a radical Islamic website. This is showing that the first amendment is being challenged, but unfortunately since this is techinically a case thats out of the united states juridiction due to it being a threat from outside the states the decision to censor southpark was left up to comedy central. After watching the videos for this clip its really hard to tell if it even refereed to the prophet Muhammad after all hes in  a bear suit.

Propaganda in Advertising/PR

This commercial is using the advertising technique glittering generalities. The advertiser campaign slogan is burger is man food. The advertiser is generalizing that their Texan burger is man food.

Propaganda in Advertising/PR

The technique that was used below was the Appeal of Fear. The advertiser shows a consumer who would have lost her dog if she did not have ADT. The advertiser is showing that households without ADT is not protected.

Internet

On wikipedia there are 14,559 social working websites listed. The social working websites I have heard of are facebook and twitter and that's about it. From what i can tell all the social working websites are all listed. I use social networking as a way to connect with friends who are far away. The sites that I use are facebook and that's about it for social working websites. One way that a a social network website helped me was when someone needed to contact me, but didn't have my phone number. So what that person did was message some of my friends who did have my phone number on facebook and was able to contact me by that means.

Movies or Recordings

My favorite movie of 2009 is the pixar movie Up. I loved it because it showed that older people can still go on an adventure and to continue showing there love to there beloved who passed away. My all time favorite movie of all time is the Indiana Jones series. Those movies were awesome and full of adventure. I saw Up in theaters while I saw Indiana Jones in video.

Magazines

Delin Lin
The name of the magazine would be Piano Fanatics.
The concept of this magazine would be give readers the latest uptate on the world of piano. Also it will include music sheets to the most popular piano song of that week.

This magazine will appeal to everyone as long as they play piano, so in a way this magazine focuses on a very limited group of people. There isn't a lot of piano magazines, but the biggest competition this magazine will most likely have would be Rolling Stones magazine which focuses on every genre of music.
The five advertisers that would be most beneficial to this magazine would be Guitar Center, Sam Ash, apple itunes, Interscope records and Sony music because they all have to do with music one way or another. For example Guitar center is a great place to buy a piano. For premier issue of this magazine i would definietly include an article about mozart and some history on other great piano players. I would then get more modern and talk about the latest piano craze and finally end it with music sheets to the latest piano craze. The articles in this magazine will be about current piano players and past piano players. They will include updates on what hte new piano players are doing and history on what hte older piano players did. The cover of this magazine will be simple and powerful. The cover will have piano keys stretching from one end of the magazine to the other. It would also have a listing on what music sheet is included and what major event in piano is happening that week. There will be no advertisement on the cover, but there can be on the backside. This magazine would hopefully be sold in stores like guitar center or other places that sells instruments.

Week 2 Media Impact

A great media research project that can impact the world is a study of the relation between advertisement and impulsive buying. A good way to test this is to create a lot of advertisement for something that is not a necessity. Then advertise this item on tv radio and anything else that would get peoples attention. The point of this is to see if people would buy something they don't need. If they buy it then advertisement has a huge media impact. This research is considered random sampling and i believe that most people would not buy this item. but of course there will be a few people who do. If people see enough of an ad of something they would eventually give it a try.

Media Autobobiography

This blog is about my relation to the eight types of mass media. The first type is books. I'm really not much of a book person, but there are a lot of books that I do enjoy. My favorite book of all time is sadako and the thousand paper cranes. Something that I do read often is the newspaper. In the past I would often just read the comics, but now every section is enjoyable to me. I don't have any subscription to any magazines, so my experience with that is very limited. The only time i read those is when I'm in a doctors office. I love movies. Currently my favorite movie that came out is Inception. I never used any recordings before. I played the piano and someone recorded me with a video camera, but that was about it. I don't listen to the radio much. I have a ipod jack in my car so I can pretty much listen to any song I want. Television was something that I did a lot in the past, but not anymore. My past favorite shows were arrested development, house and supernatural, but now I don't watch Television as much. Internet is something I use everyday. It is now a necessity to everyday life. I use internet to for homework and all sorts of miscellaneous stuff. My major is business and I believe learning about the media would greatly improve this field. The media is what makes businesses possible, so they the two are definitely related.
